Police have nabbed two people of interest with 15 kilograms of bhang in Matungu, Kakamega County, following a public tip-off that led to a swift operation by officers from Matungu Police Station on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.
In a statement on X, the National Police Service (NPS) confirmed that officers intercepted a public service vehicle at Matungu Trading Centre and recovered the narcotics.
“Following a tip-off from the public, officers from Matungu Police Station intercepted a public service vehicle at Matungu Trading Centre. Two male suspects were found to have approximately 15 kilograms of cannabis,” the police stated.
The two individuals were taken into custody, and the seized drugs have been preserved as evidence. The NPS added that the persons of interest are expected to appear in court to face drug-related charges.
The police commended the public for the tip-off that led to the successful arrest, saying collaboration between citizens and law enforcement remains vital in tackling drug trafficking and other crimes.

“The National Police Service commends the officers involved in the operation for their vigilance and commitment to keeping our communities safe. We remain steadfast in our mission to serve and protect,” read part of the statement.
The Kakamega incident comes a day after police in Mandera County recovered at least 700 rolls of cannabis sativa and three kilograms of unprocessed cannabis during a patrol in the Shantoley area.
The National Police Service said the exhibits, including an unregistered motorcycle, were secured as evidence while officers continued to search for the person of interest who remains at large.
This latest seizure further follows a separate incident in October 2025 in Kisumu County, where police recovered 20 kilograms of bhang hidden in a lorry ferrying vegetables to Nairobi. In that case, the driver was nabbed after officers at a roadblock along the Kisumu–Ahero highway discovered the consignment.
