The Democratic Party leader Justin Muturi and his Devolution Party counterpart Lenny Kivuti have issued a stern call to President William Ruto to rein in Kenya Kwanza leaders and supporters accused of plotting chaos ahead of the tense Mbeere North by-election.
Speaking during a public engagement at Kirie Market on Thursday, November 13, 2025, the two leaders warned that rising threats of violence risk plunging the constituency into unnecessary political turmoil as campaigns enter the homestretch.
Muturi, who was rallying support for Democratic Party candidate Newton Karish, said reports that certain Kenya Kwanza loyalists were planning to disrupt opposition rallies, particularly one expected to be attended by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Sunday, November 9, 2025, were alarming and unacceptable.
He reminded President Ruto that just days earlier, government leaders had held a peaceful meeting in Ishiara without any confrontations, insisting that similar respect must be accorded to all political players regardless of their affiliations.
“When they were in Ishiara, their meetings went on smoothly, and nobody interfered with them. Now some of their supporters are publicly declaring that they will cause chaos when Rigathi and Kalonzo visit. Let President Ruto tell his people to stop this. It is bad political manners,” Muturi said.
Adding to the growing concern, the Embu County Security Committee yesterday summoned four individuals who appeared in a viral video threatening to cause chaos during Gachagua’s visit to Mbeere North.

Security warnings
The committee warned that security agencies would not tolerate any incitement or plans to destabilise the constituency during the election period.
Muturi condemned any attempt to instigate political intolerance, stressing that Mbeere North has long cherished peace and coexistence despite having diverse political views.
He called on the electorate to reject any attempts to introduce violence into local politics, saying the constituency’s reputation for peace should not be tainted by a few reckless individuals.
The former National Assembly Speaker also expressed confidence that DP candidate Newton Karish would clinch the seat, citing his 13-year track record in public service and deep understanding of the constituency’s challenges.
“Karish is not a stranger to leadership. His experience speaks for itself. Mbeere North deserves a leader who can deliver from day one,” he noted.
On his part, Devolution Empowerment Party leader Lenny Kivuti echoed Muturi’s sentiments, saying the whispers of planned chaos were an insult to the people of Mbeere North, who have always embraced peaceful political competition.
Kivuti urged residents to turn out in large numbers on election day and vote for a leader with a transformative agenda, one who can confront the issues of poverty, unemployment, and underdevelopment that have plagued the region for years.
He stressed that political violence has no place in modern democracy, reminding voters that the real power lies in their ability to choose a leader who will change their lives, not in those who thrive in disruption and intimidation.
