USA-based Kikuyu gospel artiste Jane Muthoni has spoken out after her husband’s ex-lover, Catherine Wambui Mbugwa, accused her of snatching John Mwaura Gituka from her and relocating with the children they had to the USA.

Speaking in a YouTube video on Thursday, November 27, 2025, Muthoni clarified that she married John Mwaura in 2019 through a public church wedding and insisted that their marriage was never secret.

The artiste emphasised that the ceremony was conducted openly to avoid any scandals and that there was nothing to hide regarding her relationship with John.

“I married honestly, and my husband is John Mwaura Gituka. Our marriage is not a secret. We had a big church wedding in 2019, and it was a public ceremony so there would be no scandals. I never hid anything, and I was never marrying someone else’s husband,” she said.

Jane Muthoni explained that she first met John during a mother-in-law’s burial, where she was invited to perform, and denied any prior involvement with him before his previous marriage ended. The artiste stated that the claims by Catherine, suggesting she met John before his divorce, were false and misleading.

“I first met John during a mother-in-law’s burial, where I was invited to perform, and I did not know his ex-wife. The claims that I was meeting him before his previous marriage ended are false,” she added.

Jane added that when she and John decided to wed, she was aware that he had two children from a previous marriage. She noted that the children were already adults and living in the United States, and insisted that there was no possibility she coerced them to assume their biological mother.

“When I decided to marry John, I found out he had two children already living in the United States. These children are adults, both over 28 years old, and there was no way I could coerce them into anything. They are mature, mentally stable, and capable of making their own decisions. I have stayed with them, and they are good, obedient, and happy. We live as one family,” she added.

Desperate appeal

Muthoni then appealed to Catherine to stop exposing the children online, stressing that social media is a double-edged sword and that she herself has never brought her own children into public platforms.

“If it were not for their mother bringing these issues on social media, many people wouldn’t even know the details because we live peacefully. I also want to appeal to their mother: if you love these children, stop exposing them online. I have children of my own and have never shared them on social media because these platforms can be harmful. The children are adults; please respect their privacy,” she said.

Catherine’s story

Catherine Wambui, in her statement shared on TikTok on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, claimed that her concern was not Jane Muthoni marrying her former husband but the welfare of her children, whom she said she had not spoken to in over ten years.

She claimed that the video calls she had with her children were manipulated and that someone was influencing what they said during the conversations.

“Even now, because I spoke publicly about my issues, it feels like the video calls they made were influenced, as if someone was telling them what to say. I worry that they were forced to say certain things. My focus has always been on the well-being of my children, and I want their voices and feelings to be respected,” she said.

Catherine explained that her community were surprised when they heard that Jane Muthoni had married her former husband, given hisprevious marriages.

She emphasised that her main worry is for her children’s well-being and expressed concern over how they don’t like to talk to her lately.

“This woman married my husband, if that is her fourth marriage. People from our community even came to see which man had married her after all his previous failed marriages. My concern is not that she married my ex-husband; my concern is the welfare of my children, whom I have not spoken to in over ten years,” she said.
