Siaya Senator and ODM party leader Oburu Odinga gave Kenyans a rare glimpse into his personal life after posting photos with his second wife, Judith Oburu, during their time together at their UK residence.
The senator, popularly known as Dr Oburu Oginga, is currently in the United Kingdom for a routine medical checkup and recuperation following a brief visit to a Nairobi hospital.
Party officials and family members have reassured Kenyans that his condition is stable and there is no cause for concern.
Oburu hosts Kenya’s high commissioner On 17 September, the senator used the occasion to conduct some light official business, welcoming Kenya’s High Commissioner to the UK, Maurice Makoloo, for a courtesy call at the residence.
In a Facebook post that quickly drew attention, Oburu wrote that he and Mama Judy were “pleased to welcome” the High Commissioner for discussions centred on strengthening ties between Kenya and the UK, supporting the Kenyan diaspora, and channelling their skills and investments back home.
“A strong diaspora is a vital pillar of our nation’s prosperity,” he noted in the post.
Oburu’s wife steals the show
While the meeting with Makoloo was the official reason for the post, it was the appearance of Judith alongside her husband that truly caught Kenyans off guard.
Oburu is widely regarded as a deeply private individual who rarely shares family moments on social media, making the photos a novelty for his followers.
Judith was first introduced to the public during the burial of former prime minister Raila Odinga, and more prominently during the memorial period for the Odinga family.
She previously drew admiration from Kenyans for her fashion sense when she hosted Mt Kenya leaders at their residence.
Back in Nairobi, ODM’s day-to-day party affairs are being managed by deputy party leaders Simba Arati and Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir during Oburu’s absence.
