Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has pulled off a heartwarming surprise, organising a full retirement celebration for Gideon Kisangi, his family’s driver of more than 40 years, on Tuesday, September 15.
The touching send-off was captured in a video Mudavadi shared on Instagram, showing Gideon being gently led by the hand to a white-draped garden tent adorned with banners reading:
“A legacy of service, a lifetime of gratitude. Celebrating Gideon and the remarkable journey we’ve shared.”
How did Mudavadi celebrate driver?
Dozens of guests dressed in formal and traditional attire greeted him with applause, embraces and warm smiles.
Mudavadi, his wife and children were all present, and at one point the entire group broke into a joyful dance together, giving the event the feel of a family reunion rather than a formal farewell.
In a heartfelt speech at the celebration, Mudavadi traced the full arc of Gideon’s service, noting that the driver had first worked for his father, the late Moses Mudavadi, before becoming his own trusted driver for four decades.
What made the tribute even more striking was the revelation that throughout all those years behind the wheel, Gideon had not been involved in a single accident.
“From briefly driving my father, Moses Mudavadi, to becoming my trusted driver for four decades, Gideon Kisangi has been there through some of our family’s most important milestones, incredibly, without a single accident,” Mudavadi wrote in his caption.
The family presented Gideon with a walking cane and a personal letter before guests sat down to a buffet spread and rounded off the evening with the cutting of a decorated retirement cake.
In his own remarks, Gideon thanked the family for the dignity and respect they showed him throughout his years of service.
The video struck a chord with many Kenyans online, who praised Mudavadi for honouring a man whose contributions often go unnoticed in public life.
