A suspect is in custody after a shooting at a Kentucky State University (KSU) in the city of Frankfort, officials say.
“At this time, we are aware of some injuries,” Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear said. “We will share more information as available.”
It is not yet clear how many people were injured, or if anyone was killed. The KSU campus was placed on lockdown following the reported attack on Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities said they responded to an incident involving “an active aggressor” on campus.
The governor confirmed that a suspect had been arrested and asked for prayers for those affected.

The Frankfort Police Department, KSU campus police and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office responded to the shooting. In a post on Facebook, law enforcement said they “secured the campus and have a suspect in custody”.
The university campus is just above 1,000 acres and has more than 2,200 students and 450 faculty and staff members, according to its website.
Past incidents
In April 2025, authorities said a Florida State University student accused of opening fire on campus – killing two and wounding six others – is the stepson of a police officer.
Officials said the alleged gunman, 20-year-old Phoenix Ikner, was carrying a handgun that used to be the service weapon of sheriff’s deputy Jessica Ikner.
The suspect began shooting at around lunchtime on near the student union building in Tallahassee.
The deceased were not students, campus police said. A shotgun was also found at the scene, police said.
The suspect was a “longstanding member” of the sheriff’s office’s youth advisory council and was engaged in a number of training programmes, Sheriff Walt McNeil said.
“So it is not a surprise that he had access to weapons,” he said. During a press conference, Phoenix Ikner was identified as the son of Jessica Ikner, however Florida court documents indicated that the suspect had a different biological mother and was largely raised by his father and stepmother.
