Jesus Compassion Ministries [JCM] preacher Bishop Ben Kiengei has clarified his political position after facing criticism online for remarks that were interpreted as hinting at a possible entry into politics.

In a New Year message shared on Facebook on Monday, December 29, 2025, Kiengei addressed the backlash from critics who questioned his political leanings and motives

He expressed surprise at what he described as attempts by some people to dictate who he should or should not support politically, noting that similar criticism had surfaced in the past.

“Are you now stopping us from loving the President we chose for ourselves? You abused us in 2022 when we warned you, and now you are the ones warning us,” Kiengei wrote.

The cleric openly stated that he is a supporter of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and its coalition, Azimio.

He added that he and like-minded supporters are still in a period of mourning following the death of the party’s long-time leader, Raila Odinga, whom he described as their party leader.

“As for me, you know very well that I belong to ODM/Azimio, and we are still mourning our party leader, Rt Hon Raila Odinga,” he added.

Despite declaring his political allegiance, Bishop Kiengei was keen to draw a clear line between his personal beliefs and his role as a religious leader.

He emphasised that he considers himself a bishop for all people, regardless of political party, ideology or affiliation, and insisted that his faith-based calling remains inclusive.

“Let it be clear that I am a bishop for all people, for all political parties and all ideologies,” he said.

He further explained that while he respects different political opinions, he personally follows the direction of his party leadership.

In this context, he mentioned Oburu Odinga as his party leader whose guidance he chooses to follow, stressing that this is a personal decision rather than an attempt to influence others.

“However, my party leader is Hon. Oburu Odinga, and when he says we should move in a certain direction, I follow,” he shared.

Bishop Kiengei strongly warned against political intolerance, stating that no one has the right to force their political views on another person.

He underscored that every Kenyan is free to follow their own party of choice and that he does not carry anyone’s mind or vote on their behalf.

“Everyone should follow their own party. I do not control anyone’s mind or vote. Happy New Year,” he added.
