Tension and fear have gripped residents in Mbale town, Vihiga county, after two dead bodies were discovered dumped in the Septic Tank behind a building just a few metres from Mbale police station.

The decomposing two bodies, one for a man and a woman, were discovered on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, behind a building.

One of the bodies belongs to Humphrey Mbarang’a, 43 years old, a casual worker at Mbale town.

According to the family, the deceased Mbarang’a disappeared on 24th December last year, 2025. Only his body was discovered in a septic tank, roting.

The grieving family said the deceased left home on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, while in high spirits, ready to celebrate Christmas Day, but he never came back home.

The deceased’s mother, Jane Kasigane, said his son took tea very well on 24th December 2025 and left for Mbale town to seek his daily bread.

Jane said that after the disappearance of his son, they tried as a family to look for him with no success.

She says they decided to report the matter to Mbale police Station.

“My son left home on 24th December last year in high spirits, ready to celebrate Christmas. He did not come back until today. His body was discovered in A septic tank,” said the grieving mother.

The deceased’s brother, David Kagahi, said they have been looking for his brother for the last two weeks.

“We have been looking for our brother until we received a call that his body is rotting in the Septic Tank. My brother was a polite hard hard-working man,” sobbed Kagahi.

Mbihi sub-location assistant chief Alex Omenda confirmed the incident.

Omenda said the two bodies, one for Humphrey Mbarang’a and an unidentified lady, were discovered after locals complained of a bad smell.

He said he called police officers from Mbale who retrieved the bodies with the help of Vihiga county enforcement emergency response team.

“The two bodies were discovered in the Septic tank. I called the police, and they retrieved them and took them to Vihiga county hospital mortuary,” said the assistant chief.

The chief said he suspects the two victims might have been killed and their bodies dumped in the Septic tank.
