Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has asked leaders to stop carrying goons and teargas whenever they go.

Speaking during a church service on Sunday, February 22, 2026, Murkomen regretted that some leaders do not have morals.

He however warned that the government has swung into action and the issue of people seeking sympathy through chaos will be dealt with.

His remarks come amid heightened political tensions following chaos witnessed during recent opposition rallies, including the Linda Mwananchi event in Kakamega.

Chaos and sympathy politics

Murkomen described the incidents as “teargas, goons comedy,” insisting that some politicians were orchestrating disorder for political mileage.

According to the CS, the opposition orchestrated rally chaos in order to portray themselves as victims. He stated that staging violence and blaming security agencies would not shield anyone from investigations.

“Don’t go to rallies with teargas and goons,” Murkomen said, adding that leaders must take responsibility for the conduct of their supporters.

He further confirmed that police will probe the chaos witnessed at a rally associated with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, noting that investigations would establish who was behind the disruption.

Murkomen maintained that law enforcement agencies have a duty to protect lives and property, and that any individual found culpable would face the law regardless of political affiliation.

Youth misuse warning

In a related development, Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo cautioned politicians against misusing unemployed youth to cause violence.

Omollo warned that paying young people to disrupt meetings or attack rivals was irresponsible and dangerous, emphasizing that such acts only worsen insecurity and economic hardship.

The statements appear just moments after remarks by Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, who had earlier said the chaos at the Linda Mwananchi rally was sponsored by the government.

“We are used to this chaos caused by the government. We have experienced first-hand violence from government machinery. The government is so predictable, you will always predict how these people will behave even in the next rally, it is too obvious that they are going to behave the same way,” Babu said during a televised interview.

As political temperatures rise, the focus now shifts to investigations into the Kakamega incident, with both sides maintaining sharply contrasting accounts of what transpired.
