Playing off a handicap of 21, Kung’u held his nerve in a tournament marked by intense competition and high-quality play across all divisions.
“I had a fantastic round at the Captain’s Prize. I thoroughly enjoyed the company of my four-ball, and I’m pleased my short game really came through for me on the day,” he said after his victory.
The tournament showcased the depth of talent within the club, with strong performances recorded across categories. In the ladies’ Division Two, Catherine Kamene and Mercy Martin both posted excellent scores of 45 stableford points, while Erastus Ouko clinched the Men’s Division Two title with 44 points.
In the gross category, Catherine Wambui stood out with a commendable score of 77 to secure the Gross Winner title.
Competition was equally fierce in the sponsors’ category, where Albert Waweru of Britam and Victor Juma of Laptop Clinic both returned remarkable scores of 52 stableford points. Waweru, however, claimed the top spot on countback.
In the guest categories, Harun Mugendi led with 45 stableford points, while Halima Salim topped the Lady Guest category with 40 points.
Louis Nderi and Wambui Gachoka showcased their power to win the Longest Drive titles in the men’s and ladies’ categories respectively, while Michael Waititu and Catherine Wambui displayed precision to claim the Nearest to the Pin prizes.
Ruiru Sports Club Captain Jasta Mathenge hailed the turnout and level of competition, noting that the event reflects the continued growth of the sport at the club.
“To see 334 golfers take to the course this weekend is a testament to the growth of the sport at Ruiru Sports Club. The level of competition, especially from our division winners and sponsors, has set a high bar for the rest of the 2026 season,” he said.
