Migori: Residents of Nyamilu raise alarm over insecurity

Residents of Nyamilu in Uriri, Migori County, have raised concerns over increasing cases of insecurity in the area, linking the surge in crime to a power outage that has persisted for the past two weeks.

The residents say several learning institutions, including Nyamilu Primary School, have been targeted by thieves who are taking advantage of the darkness caused by the blackout.

Nyamilu Primary School Deputy Head Teacher, Anjeline Ouma, said suspected thieves attempted to break into the school on the night of April 11, 2026.

However, the attempt was thwarted after the school watchman raised the alarm, prompting members of the community to respond in large numbers.

Ouma noted that the thieves had recently broken into the school’s administration block and made away with several tablets and other learning materials.

She said the school administration fears another possible break-in as the institution remains in complete darkness due to the ongoing power outage.

The deputy head teacher has now appealed to Kenya Power to urgently restore electricity in the area to help curb the rising insecurity.
