Murkomen rubbishes claims linking him to Kiambu land dispute

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has dismissed as false claims published in one of the daily newspapers linking him to an alleged land dispute.

In a press release dated April 22, 2026, the Ministry of Interior and National Administration said the allegations were wild and false, adding that the story was based on “rumour, conjecture and wild allegations”.

The ministry said Murkomen has no personal interest in the property in question, adding that he has no knowledge of the purported land, its location or the existence of a dispute.

The statement further said the CS does not conduct police patrols, arguing that police involvement in land-related incidents does not imply any personal interest by the minister.

The ministry also said Murkomen does not direct police in their day-to-day operations, noting that any general policy guidelines are issued publicly and in writing through the Inspector General of Police.

Murkomen urged the Inspector General and investigative agencies to move with speed to address the matter and protect the interests of genuine land owners.

The controversy stems from a report in the dailies that detailed a long-running family dispute over a 300-acre parcel of land in Runda, Kiambu County, estimated to be worth about Ksh20 billion.

The report alleged that Murkomen, alongside Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi and Gatundu North MP Elijah Kururia, had been implicated in claims of protecting individuals accused of invading the land.

Petitioners, including members of the Mbugua family, claimed more than 200 people had taken over the property, and alleged police officers in Kiambu had been compromised and failed to act on complaints.

They further claimed part of the contested land was transferred to a private company under questionable circumstances.
