A 22-year-old man narrowly escaped death on Thursday morning when his house caught fire in a suspected arson attack in Abom village, Bondo, Siaya County. Isaac Ochieng’ was asleep around 2 a.m. when he awoke to find his two-roomed grass-thatched house engulfed in flames.

Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo reported that Ochieng’ went to Lwala Kotiende police station to report the incident, stating that unknown individuals had set his house on fire. He managed to escape unhurt and raised the alarm, prompting his family to respond and extinguish the fire.

Ochieng’ informed the police that the blaze destroyed his bed, assorted clothing, and other household items. Mr. Kimaiyo mentioned that while the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, Ochieng’ suspects it may have been started by a youth with whom he had quarreled over a debt.

Police officers visited and documented the scene, and investigations are underway to determine the true cause of the fire.
