Detectives in Githurai have arrested a police officer from Kimbo Police Station on suspicion of murder following the death of a 24-year-old man from gunshot wounds early Sunday morning. According to a report filed at Githurai Kimbo Police Station, the victim, John Mutembei, succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital after being shot at Goteana Bar in Githurai Kimbo.

The shooter is believed to be a police officer, although the circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear. After receiving reports of the shooting, officers from Githurai Kimbo Police Station, along with detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), responded to the scene. They later confirmed Mutembei’s death from gunshot wounds at the hospital.

Mutembei’s body has been moved to the hospital mortuary, where an autopsy will be conducted. Preliminary investigations reveal that Good Samaritans rushed him to the hospital after the shooting. Authorities are now piecing together the events that led to the fatal incident at the bar.

A firearm believed to have been used in the shooting has been seized and will be used as evidence in the investigation. The police officer suspected in the shooting is currently in custody and is expected to be formally charged in court on Monday.
