On Monday, June 17, a fatal road accident on the Lodwar-Kitale Road claimed the lives of five people.
The tragic incident occurred at around 6:30 pm at Aro area and involved a Volvo Station Wagon and a boda boda.
According to a report filed at Lokichar Police Station in Turkana County, the car, driven from Kitale towards Lodwar, had one male passenger on board.
As the vehicle approached the scene of the accident, the driver swerved to the right lane to avoid hitting a dog that was crossing the road.
“He, however, still knocked down the dog and also had a head-on collision with a motorcycle which was coming from the opposite direction,” the report reads.
As a result of the impact, the boda boda rider, a female adult and three girls who were pillion passengers died on the spot.
“The driver and passenger from the Volvo escaped unhurt. Both the vehicle and motorcycle were extensively damaged.”
The bodies were removed to Lodwar County Referral Hospital mortuary pending autopsy.
The motor vehicle and motorcycle were towed to Lokichar Police Station.
