A body has been found in the search for TV and radio presenter Michael Mosley, a rescue worker informed the BBC. The 67-year-old went missing on Wednesday after setting off on a walk from Agios Nikolaos beach.
The body, yet to be formally identified, was discovered on a cliff on a rocky hill northeast of the village of Pedi, near Agia Marina beach.
Authorities had been searching for Dr. Mosley in a remote mountainous area. According to Symi’s mayor, the body was found as search teams were examining the coastline with cameras and approaching a cave near Agia Marina beach. A police source told BBC News the deceased had been dead “for a number of days.”
The search for Dr. Mosley, which spanned five days, involved firefighters, dogs, helicopters, drones, local people, and officers from Symi and beyond. His wife, Dr. Clare Bailey Mosley, and their four children had also joined the search on the island.
Dr. Mosley is best known for his TV programmes such as “Trust Me I’m a Doctor” and BBC Radio 4’s “Just One Thing” podcast. He studied medicine in London, qualified as a doctor, and spent the last couple of decades working as a presenter, documentary maker, journalist, and author.
He appeared on BBC One’s “The One Show” and ITV’s “This Morning,” and was a columnist for the Daily Mail. His TV programmes also included Channel 4’s “Michael Mosley: Who Made Britain Fat?” and BBC’s “Trust Me, I’m A Doctor.” His wife is also a doctor, author, and healthy living advocate.
