A 25-year-old man has died after being fatally slashed at a bullfighting event in Shinyalu, Kakamega. The incident took place at the Mukhonje grounds, a well-known bullfighting venue in the area. Witnesses reported that the two young men had an argument shortly before the situation escalated into a fight, resulting in one of them being killed.
“The suspect is said to have had a longstanding feud with the deceased, which unfortunately has led to loss of life,” said area chief Mukhonje Isaac Makomere.
The shocking incident occurred just as the two bulls clashed, with hundreds of spectators cheering. The victim collapsed on the ground, his clothes drenched in blood.
A video viewed shows the deceased being hurriedly dragged away from the arena in an attempt to prevent him from being trampled by the fighting bulls. He can be heard groaning in pain, with blood oozing from his head. Unfortunately, he later succumbed to his injuries.
Residents, armed with sticks and clubs, quickly gathered and assaulted the suspect, beating him severely.
Elizabeth Susy, the mother of the deceased, expressed that the incident has left the family devastated.
“I was called to the scene following the incident, and arrived at the scene only to find my son dead, he had been slashed by a machete,” said Susy.
The body of the deceased was taken to Kakamega morgue.
Police are investigating the incident.
