Police in Homa Bay are investigating the murder of a 68-year-old woman who was attacked by unknown assailants at her home in Nyagidha village on Monday night. The body of Wilkister Odanga, who was deaf and mute, was discovered on Tuesday morning by a relative who went to check on her after she failed to wake up.
Wilkister’s body was found lying on her bed, and it is believed that the attacker entered through a cut made on the door. The relative mentioned that the woman’s inability to hear and speak made her vulnerable, as she could not call for help during the attack. She had marks on her face and is also suspected to have been raped.
Nothing was stolen from the house during the incident. Nyagidha village elder Alice Opiyo learned about the death at 10 am and noted that the widowed woman had been living alone since her husband’s death over a decade ago.
Opiyo urged residents to cooperate with the police as the investigation continues. The body has been taken to the Homa Bay mortuary for a postmortem.
