Operations at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) experienced disruptions on Thursday morning, September 26, due to a supply issue with Jet A-1 fuel. However, the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) later announced that normal operations had been restored.
“The issue has been rectified, and normal airport operations have now resumed,” KAA stated. They also extended their apologies for the inconvenience caused to passengers and affected airline partners. “Passengers are advised to check with their respective airlines for any updates regarding their flights. Thank you for your continued support,” the statement added.
The demand for jet fuel among Kenyan airlines has risen significantly over the past year, indicating a surge in air travel from both local and international travelers. Official data from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) revealed that airlines purchased 661,100 tonnes of fuel in 2023, reflecting an 11% increase compared to the previous year. This marks the highest rise in jet fuel consumption since the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting a recovery in the aviation sector.
