The body of Josphat Muchiri, aged 54, who was buried alive when a quarry he was digging collapsed at Ngucue quarry in Murinduko ward, Kirinyaga County, has finally been retrieved.
After waiting in vain for the county government of Kirinyaga to respond, residents took matters into their own hands, and the body was recovered last night by an excavator belonging to a Ngurubani trader.
Paul Muna, a resident, expressed relief at the retrieval of Muchiri’s body, stating, “At last, the body of Muchiri has been retrieved by Mr. Muchangi after residents, using hoes and spades, failed to find his body.” The retrieval effort came after over 24 hours of searching since the quarry collapsed on Tuesday night.
Muchiri was accompanied by two other individuals who managed to escape unharmed. His body has been transported to Kerugoya mortuary as preparations for his burial continue in Kanjinji village.
