A delegation from Namibia, led by Commandant Brigadier General Erastus Nathinge, visited the Defence Headquarters in Nairobi as part of their study tour. The group included Directing Staff and course participants from Course 4 of 2024.
The visit began with a courtesy call on Major General Fredrick Leuria, Assistant Chief of Defence Forces for operations, plans, doctrine, and training. The primary goal of the visit was to bolster cooperation between the Kenyan and Namibian militaries and their respective command and staff colleges, in line with the Defence Cooperation Agreement between the two nations.
During their stay, the delegation was briefed on Kenya’s national security perspectives, the general security outlook, and the country’s responses to emerging national, regional, and global challenges. They also discussed the role of defence industries in supporting national security and development, as well as exploring potential areas for partnership and collaboration.
“The longstanding relations between Kenya and Namibia date back to 1989 when the Kenya Defence Forces participated in peacekeeping missions in Namibia,” noted Brigadier Paul Koech, Chief of Training at the Defence Headquarters. He emphasized Kenya’s commitment to strengthening security ties with Namibia.
The 25-member Namibian delegation’s tour included visits to the Joint Command and Staff College, the International Peace Support Training Centre, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nairobi. They were briefed on key activities and programmes during these visits.
In addition to these engagements, the delegation is scheduled to visit the Kenya Meat Commission (KMC), Uhuru Gardens, the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government, and the Ministry of Trade, Investments, and Industry.
This visit is a valuable opportunity for both nations to enhance their military cooperation and share best practices, working together towards a more secure and stable region and paving the way for future collaborative efforts.
