A vehicle accident in Machakos left one person dead and several injured.

A man died in a traffic accident in Mlolongo, Machakos. According to Athi River East subcounty police commander Anderson Mbae, the unidentified individual died on the spot after being struck by a water bowser along the Gossip–Mlolongo phase three road within the Mlolongo division on Thursday.

The incident was reported to the Mlolongo police station as a fatal road traffic accident.

“The accident incident occurred near Mlolongo chief’s office at about 9.00 pm on Thursday and was reported to Mlolongo police station at 9.30 pm the same day,” Mbae said.

Mbae said the motor vehicle’s driver reportedly lost control leading to the accident.
“It happened that an unknown driver was driving a water boozer from Gossip direction towards Mlolongo phase three general direction. On reaching the location of the accident, he lost control of the said vehicle and swerved to the left knocking down the pedestrian on the spot,” Mbae said.

The same vehicle also struck another pedestrian, 14-year-old Simon Kalunde, who sustained a chest injury before the vehicle landed in a roadside ditch. Traffic officers from Athi River police station responded to the incident, processed the scene, and moved the body to Shalom Community Hospital mortuary for identification and autopsy.

The injured minor was rushed to the hospital for treatment. The vehicle involved was towed to Athi River police station for inspection and further necessary actions. Police commander Anderson Mbae stated that investigations into the incident have been launched.
