Former Isiolo South Member of Parliament Abdi Tepo has been charged with five criminal offenses. He has pleaded not guilty to possessing forged banknotes. The prosecution informed the court that he was found with 300 pieces of paper designed to resemble special paper used for creating Euro currency notes.
Tepo also faces charges for possessing ammunition and a firearm without the necessary certificates. He was granted a cash bail of Ksh. 100,000 and required to provide one contact person. The case is scheduled for a mention on August 12, 2024, for pretrial proceedings.
Tepo and his wife, Halima Gura Roka, were arrested by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officers on July 25, 2024, as part of an investigation into fraudulent payments totaling Ksh. 199 million made to Beirut Pharmacy and Medical Centre in Eastleigh by the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) between 2021 and 2023.
During the investigation, EACC conducted searches at the residences of several directors of Beirut, including Yussuf Maalim Haret, Mohamed Bare Abdille, Virginia Nduku Ngemu, Ubah Hussein Abdi, and Beirut Hospital Administrator Oscar Mburu Murigi.
Reports indicate that Tepo allegedly cocked and prepared his Ceska handgun when EACC detectives arrived at his home but later allowed them to enter the premises.
