Absa Bank has been named the Overall Winner in Sustainability in Kenya for its progress in creating long-term value for its clients, firm, economy and the environment under its Sustainable Finance Initiative (SFI) Catalyst Awards hosted by the Kenya Bankers Association (KBA).

The bank emerged as the overall winner of the inaugural award that accords firms a unique opportunity to showcase their industry leadership and their role in promoting sustainable development.

The lender also won accolades for Promoting PWD Accessibility, being Best in Sustainable Finance and as the Most Innovative Bank.

“At the Banking Industry Sustainable Finance Summit & Catalyst Awards 2024, Absa Bank Kenya was honoured in a way that reflects our journey of impact and innovation. Being named Overall Winner is a clear demonstration of our dedication to this call but more so the trust of our customers and communities that we serve,” said Absa Bank Head of Sustainability & Corporate Affairs Charles Wokabi.

Kenya’s financial services sector has been identified as a key engine of real economic growth due to its active involvement in financing various critical sectors, especially those that promote a sustainable future.

KBA has actively built capacity and promoted Sustainable Finance practices to enable financiers to appreciate creating long-term value.

Since 2016, KBA has proactively recognized financial sector players’ contribution to building sustainable financing and has come up with a framework for embedding the KBA SFI Guiding Principles in banking institutions.

The Association has now established a unique platform where firms which exemplify their sustainability prowess can be celebrated. Institutions that are honoured through the Awards will have an opportunity to leverage the recognition to attract clients and partners which will further contribute to their successes.

Absa Bank Kenya says the award underscores its commitment to tackling real-world challenges through responsible banking adding that it is motivation to do even better and reimagine financial solutions to meet the needs of today and tomorrow, as recognized by the innovation award while, the recognition for Best Case Study – Promoting PWD Accessibility reflects our belief in creating opportunities for everyone.

The bank said these awards belong to everyone who believes in the power of partnerships and purpose to drive meaningful change.
