Jeremiah Kioni, the embattled Secretary General of Jubilee, praised the Limuru III conference, affirming that it met expectations and matched the caliber of the first two Limuru events. Speaking in a K24 TV interview on Monday, May 20, 2024, Kioni emphasized that all key objectives for hosting the regional political conference were accomplished.
Formerly a member of parliament for Ndaragwa, Kioni stated that despite facing opposition from certain political quarters, the organizers successfully conducted the highly anticipated conference. He noted that the organizers compiled a list of expected attendees, all of whom showed up, thereby ensuring that the Mt Kenya political event lived up to its anticipation.
“We had intended to hold the meeting and we held it. The people we expected to come came and we achieved what we wanted to achieve,” Kioni stated.
After the Limuru III conference, organizers held a low-key follow-up meeting on Sunday, May 19, 2024, in Thika. Jeremiah Kioni informed K24 TV that the leaders convened to discuss challenges confronting the Mt Kenya region.
Despite media blackout, Kioni revealed that they met with a bereaved family who lost a loved one in a shooting incident on May 17, 2024.
As part of their resolutions, the Jubilee Secretary-General announced the formation of a legal team to represent the residents.
“Out of which yesterday we were in Thika in a place called Desai. We had a low-key event with no media presence,” Kioni stated.
“We said we will put together a team of lawyers who would always be available to defend our people because there are some quite atrocities that are being occasioned on the poor,” he remarked.
During the meeting, the organisers who include Kioni and Azimio la Umoja Principal Martha Karua launched an umbrella outfit dubbed Haki Coalition. The coalition is made up of 26 political parties from the Mt Kenya region which attended the conference.
However, Kioni insisted that all other political parties will be allowed to join the coalition irrespective of their political affiliations.
While launching Haki Coalition, Kioni named former President Uhuru Kenyatta as the Mt Kenya community leader.
“We now have an umbrella body dubbed Haki Coalition, it will bring all parties in Mount Kenya together and we will be speaking in one voice,” Kioni announced.
