Siaya Governor James Orengo has stated that the leadership of the Azimio la Umoja coalition, following ODM leader Raila Odinga’s departure, will depend on the strength of the affiliate parties.

He indicated that if Odinga were to leave the Azimio leadership after winning the African Union Commission Chairmanship, the new leadership would be determined by the relative strength of the parties involved.

Speaking in West Ugenya on Saturday, Orengo emphasized that the selection of the next Azimio party leader would be a topic for discussion, but it must reflect the strength of the ODM party within the coalition. He highlighted that the ODM is still the largest party in Azimio and that this should be recognized.

While asserting ODM’s significant role in Azimio, Orengo noted that discussions on the matter are ongoing. He claimed that the National Assembly positions previously held by Ugunja lawmaker Opiyo Wandayi and John Mbadi were designated for ODM and should therefore remain within the party.

Orengo also stated that there has been no change in the leadership structure of the National Assembly, which is why the positions previously occupied by those nominated to the cabinet have been filled by representatives from the ODM party.
