Eldas MP Adan Keynan has stated that the Jubilee party has chosen to distance itself from the ongoing anti-government protests and further seeks to disentangle itself from the the Azimio la Umoja coalition.

Speaking on Citizen TV’s Daybreak show on Monday, Keynan said that the party does not subscribe to the opposition’s ideologies which have led to destruction of property and loss of lives during the protests.

“Jubilee has refused and will continue to refuse to be party to maandamano that are tailor-made for the destruction of the property and lives of Kenyans,” he said.

“During the election, we were part of Azimio, we have written to exit from that coalition because it does not have the well-being of the people of Kenya and that is why today sitting here we don’t subscribe to maandamano and the sufuria revolution because we know the proponents don’t know what they are talking about.”

The legislator, who is the party’s interim Deputy chairperson, added that he has mobilized all party members to steer clear of the protests apart from Jeremiah Kioni, who was suspended as the party’s Secretary General.

“You will not see them. The only person that you know is our former Secretary General Kioni who doesn’t represent us,” he said.

The Jubilee party has been marred with chaos as factions led by Kioni and EALA MP Kanini Kega have fought over the party’s leadership.

Meanwhile, there is a stay order preserving Kioni’s tenure following a decision by the High Court that suspended an order made by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) okaying his suspension.

According to Kega’s faction, Kioni and the former deputy chairperson David Murathe were expelled from the party leadership.

Kioni was expelled from the party over gross misconduct and for failing to respect the party’s organs and carrying out his duties as Secretary General.

On the other hand, Murathe was axed for gross misconduct while Gichohi was suspended for allegedly refusing to carry out the party’s instructions and not respecting the party’s headquarters.

In the leadership changes, the Kega-led faction replaced former President Uhuru Kenyatta with Nominated MP Sabina Chege in the party leader position.
