AFC Leopards Secretary General Gilbert Andugu is optimistic about the team’s prospects for the remainder of the 2023/24 FKF Premier League season. Andugu expressed his hope that the team will secure victories in all their remaining matches to finish the season strongly.
Currently, AFC Leopards, commonly known as Ingwe, are in sixth place on the league table with 47 points. They trail fourth-placed Bandari FC by just one point. The team’s next challenge is against Shabana FC, scheduled for June 15, 2024.
Winning this match and the subsequent ones could significantly improve their standing in the league and end the season on a high note.
“We are remaining with three matches to finish the league season starting with Shabana FC,” said Andungu.
“We are not aware of the venue they will host us from. Be it Homa Bay or anywhere they’ll choose, it should be a venue that will guarantee the security of our fans and players. These are two teams with one of the biggest fan base in the country and so security will be key in this high profile match,” he added.
Andugu has also rallied Ingwe fans to turn up in large numbers against Shabana FC to cheer their team as the league edges closer to the finish line.
“I just would like to urge our fans to be calm and observe decorum, enjoy the match and go back home,” averred Andugu.
After the Shabana clash, AFC Leopards will then host FKF Cup finalists KCB, before visiting Ulinzi Stars on the final day on June 23, 2024.
“And the other match that remains on the cards is against KCB which we will be the hosts. We are looking for a venue in Nairobi because we will be at home and also it will be a midweek game,” said Andungu.
“We could land on the Dandora Stadium because of the proximity to our fans with concerns of it being a midweek game. If you host a midweek match away from Nairobi then it will be difficult to have fans travelling to cheer the team and so this is one factor that we will be considering heavily when selecting which venue we will use to Host KCB,” he stated.
