The police in Migori County are investigating the tragic death of one of their colleagues attached to the Suna West Sub County. According to Dorothy Migarusha, the Nyatike sub-county police commander, the deceased, identified as Gipson Omari, reportedly shot himself on Sunday morning in the presence of his wife and children.
Migarusha stated that the 31-year-old officer shot himself in the chest and was rushed to Life Care Hospital, where he passed away while undergoing treatment. Before the incident, Omari had been on a night patrol with another police officer. Around 3:30 am, he excused himself to attend to some matters at his home.
Shortly after, a gunshot was heard, prompting the other police officer to rush to Omari’s house, where he found him bleeding from the chest. Additional police officers responded, and Omari was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Omari received a phone call from his wife, requesting him to buy electricity tokens. Upon arriving home, he allegedly shot himself before engaging with his wife. The deceased’s body has been transferred to Migori Level Four Hospital mortuary pending further police inquiries.
