Traders at Ahero market in Nyando subcounty are counting losses following a fire that started early Wednesday morning which affected the cereals section of the market.

The cause of the fire is yet to be established.

A few traders managed to salvage some of their items but most of their wares went up in flames.

Kisumu fire fighters arrived at the scene but considerable damage had already been done. Market chairman Robert Ouko said, “Many people have been left devastated as a result of the inferno.”

The extent of losses are yet to be determined.

Police have launched investigations into the cause of the fire
