Police in Kabete have recovered an AK-47 rifle stolen from the Dagoretti Police Post during the violent demonstrations on June 25, 2025.

According to a Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)statement on Saturday, the recovery followed a tip-off about a suspicious man carrying a bulging bag at Gravity Bar in the Gahui area.

Officers from Kabete Police Station swiftly responded, acting on intelligence and forensic leads to identify the suspect.

Their investigations led them to a home in the Njuki-Kirigu neighborhood, where the suspect was thought to be hiding.

However, upon noticing the presence of the officers, the individual managed to flee.

A subsequent search of the home—conducted in the presence of the suspect’s mother—resulted in the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, an empty magazine, and a single round of 7.62mm special ammunition.

Forensic verification confirmed the firearm and ammunition were among items looted from the Dagoretti Police Post during the recent unrest.

According to police, a manhunt for the suspect is currently underway.
