Alai trains guns on Sakaja with ‘PR exercise’ claim

Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly (MCA) Robert Alai has expressed his displeasure with Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja’s projects.

The MCA, who also is a prominent blogger, called out the county boss Sakaja over what he termed continuous public relations exercises instead of concentrating on service delivery.

According to Mr Alai, the governor’s projects have not been convincing to the residents, hence the need for him to do more work.

Alai also appeared to fault the Governor for launching the Mama Lucy Kibaki Eye Clinic.

The MCA argued that while the eye hospital was a good project for Nairobi residents, it should have been located within the Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital which has enough land, instead of being transferred to Umoja 2 estate, some 5km away.

“The governor should stop lying to Nairobians with cheap PR. Umoja 2 is a Level 2 Hospital which was gazetted with the others during the NMS tenure,” Mr Alai said.

“For the governor to rename a whole hospital for photo ops is a huge tragedy. It’s appalling!”

The governor has repeatedly said that the majority of the health facilities that were launched by the defunct Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) were empty and incomplete.

Also, the MCA questioned the state of the ICU unit at Mbagathi Hospital, which the governor has promised to launch.

Surprisingly, the MCA stated that the ICU facility at the Mbagathi Hospital exists, hence questioning the governor’s claims that the recently launched facility at the Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital was the first of its kind in a county hospital in Nairobi.

According to the governor, the launch of the eye clinic has been fully equipped by the county and will offer a full range of eye services, including eye examinations, prescription glasses, treatments, surgery, and more.

The move comes days after Alai, in a separate attack, accused the governor of failing to properly account for the revenue collection process within the county.
