All set for Chapa Dimba Western Region finals

Safaricom has officially flagged off the Western regional finals’ games of the Chapa Dimba football tournament with a series of community engagement drives geared towards transforming the lives of residents.

Safaricom will conduct a free medical camp, digital and financial literary training seminars, campus tours dubbed ‘Safaricom Engineering Community Campus Tours’, safety camps, players and coaches’ clinics, among other activities.

In matters baseball, The Nairobi-based Metropolitan team won the 2023 Kenya Koshien Baseball Championship held at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture (JKUAT) grounds in Juja, Kiambu.

They beat second placed Grandson’s of Abraham by 25-10 runs while Masai land from Kajiado finished third after dismissing Kongoni by 15-4 runs. Kongoni from Western finished fourth in the two-day tournament that was graced by Japanese Ambassador Okaniwa Ken.

Ambassador lauded Baseball Federation of Kenya for organising the competitive event, adding that he had spotted plenty of talent in the participating teams.

Also in attendance was President of Japan Africa Baseball and Softball Foundation (J-ABS ) Shinya Tomonari and Business Director Miyuki Hedenstrom Hanaka and the entire BFK administration led by President Titus Mutwiri and Technical Director Dedan Kariuki. The event was used to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Kenya and the Republic of Japan.

In Mangwoin beat Kimeswon 5-2 to lift the highly contested Mestowot football tournament Cup during a thrilling finals staged at the Kipchimchim playing ground in Kericho.

Post match penalty kicks were used to determine the winner after both teams settled for 0-0 barren draw during regulation time. The champions appeared to have fixed their eyes firmly on the coveted prize as they scored all the five goals to emerge the tourney overall winners.

The kings found the back of the net courtesy of Bernard Kipngeno Tumbo, Fred Odhiambo, Peter Langat, Bernard Ngeno and Owen Kipyegon who each netted a goal. Kimeswon who struggled hard but lack was not on their side got their goals through Nickson Kipngeno and Ryan Kibet.

In the ladies category, Eleven Arrows clinched the overall title after whitewashing Chebitet Starlets 5-4 in the finals played at the same venue. The two teams proved they were not pushovers as they settled for 2-2 after 90 minutes.
