The stage is set for an exhilarating weekend of rugby as the eagerly awaited Scrummage Katch 7s is set to commence at Kakamega School. With 16 boys’ teams and 8 girls’ teams already confirmed, including prominent names like Koyonzo, Vihiga, and the hosts Kakamega School, anticipation has reached fever pitch.

This event, which brings together top-performing rugby schools from across the country, particularly in the western region, promises unmatched excitement and fierce competition. The Scrummage Katch 7s marks the start of a series of planned events aimed at nurturing rugby talent at the grassroots level.

Following the success of last year’s kids’ tournament, where 12 students secured scholarships to various high schools, organizers have expanded the scope to include high schools. The objective is to provide a platform for young talents to showcase their skills and attract attention from scouts representing clubs and leading rugby universities nationwide.

Tournament Director Brian Mwenje expressed confidence in the preparations, expecting a weekend filled with high-intensity rugby action.

“The participating schools are geared up for what promises to be an electrifying tournament. They are eager to test their mettle ahead of upcoming school games,” remarked Mwenje.

Rugby enthusiasts are urged to come out in full force and support their favorite teams throughout the weekend. Mwenje extended a warm invitation, encouraging everyone to “join us and cheer on your beloved teams as they vie for supremacy on the field. Expect nothing short of a thrilling spectacle as young boys and girls exhibit their talents.”

The event will serve as the curtain-raiser for the upcoming KSSSA Term Two Games scheduled to commence on May 25.
