Efforts are underway to extinguish a fire at Diani Reef Hotel in Kwale County. The Kenya Red Cross reported that they began responding to the blaze, which started around 4:30 p.m.

“Kwale County Fire Department and the Kenya Red Cross are currently responding to a fire incident at Diani Reef Hotel in Kwale County,” the Kenya Red Cross stated on X.

An hour later, the Red Cross updated that the fire had been contained and no casualties were reported.

“The fire has been contained. Thankfully, there are no casualties,” the statement read.

The Red Cross did not disclose the cause of the fire.

This incident follows the recent tragedy at Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri, where a dormitory fire claimed the lives of 21 children. Additionally, a fire at Isiolo Girls High School injured three learners and triggered protests from the local community. The causes of both school fires remain unknown.
