Atwoli elected Vice Chairperson of Worker’s Group of the International Labour Conference

Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli has been elected the Vice Chairperson of the Worker’s Group of the International Labour Conference in Geneva, Switzerland.

Atwoli was elected during the 11th session of the International Labour Conference (ILC) organised by the International Labour Organization (ILO).

“I’m grateful for being elected by workers globally as the Vice Chairperson of the conference,” Atwoli stated.

Catelene Passchier, from the Netherlands, who also serves as the Vice Chairperson of the ILO Governing Body Workers, was elected as the Chairperson for the Workers Group of the International Labour Conference.

Francis Atwoli

Founded in 1919, ILO is a United Nations agency whose mandate is to advance social and economic justice by setting international labour standards.

The ILO’s standards aim to ensure accessible, productive, and sustainable work worldwide in conditions of freedom, equity, security and dignity.

Currently, ILO has a total of 187 member states and 40 field offices around the world. The body is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.

Current role for Atwoli in ILO

Atwoli is a titular member of the ILO Governing Body and is leading a delegation of Kenyan workers comprising 30 delegates drawn from trade unions from Kenya.

International Labour Conference is the highest decision-making body of the ILO.
