Auctioneers have obtained a court order to auction the property of Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya, to settle a debt of Ksh. 500,000 and interests owed to businessman Robert Lutta.

This is after the MP failed to pay the debt despite court ordering him to pay the businessman the money that had lent him.

In a ruling on November 27, 2023, Kakamega Magistrate Gladys Kiama ordered Salasya to pay the Ksh.500,000, interests accrued and cost of case.

Armok Auctioneers has now been entrusted with the task of auctioning the MP’s property on behalf of the plaintiff, Robert Lutta.

The MP has not paid the debt, despite court ordering him to do so within a month.

Through lawyer Edwin Wafula, the plaintiff filed a case in October 23, 2023 last, claiming that he lent the MP the money through KCB bank but he has been avoiding paying.

He even produced documents from Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) Mumias branch as evidence in court to prove that he wired the money to Salasya’s bank account.

However, Salasya denied borrowing money from the businessman, and instead claimed he is the one who loaned Lutta Ksh.1 million through his political advisor Mr. Bernard Kemba.

Magistrate Kiama dismissed Salasya’s argument due to lack of evidence.

After the ruling, the MP would be accused of threatening to kill the magistrate.

Following the ruling, the first-time parliamentarian is said to have confronted Magistrate Kiama outside the courtroom and threatened to kill her.

“At around 1230 hours while at Kakamega Law Courts, having delivered a judgement in a small claim matter vide case no. SSC E541/2023 against Hon. Peter Salasya, MP for Mumias East Constituency where he had been sued for failing to refund the money loaned to him by the claimant. He confronted her outside the courtroom and threatened to kill her and then took off,” read a report filed at the Kakamega Police Station.
