Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly (MCA) Robert Alai has offered President William Ruto some advice as he continues his development tours across the country.

In a statement posted on his official X account on Sunday, August 18, 2024, Alai urged President Ruto to refrain from addressing roadside meetings from the rooftops of his car. He suggested that Ruto take a break from such meetings for at least a year, arguing that some of the remarks made during these events have been problematic and difficult to rectify.

Alai also recommended that Ruto focus only on viable projects. He advised the President to thoroughly assess the feasibility and funding of projects and to be wary of project managers’ potential greed. According to Alai, this approach would prevent the stalling of projects after their initial launch.

Additionally, Alai urged Ruto to personally ensure that corrupt and unpopular governors are removed from office to ensure effective county governance. He warned that failing to address the issue of corrupt governors could lead to Ruto being perceived as an enemy of the people, especially if he tries to protect those who have been impeached.

“Lastly, for counties to work, personally ensure that corrupt and unpopular governors are removed from office. You can’t save governors and be enemies of the people. MCAs are not fools to be fighting some governors. Sacrifice some of the very corrupt and unpopular governors,” Alai argued.

SUNDAY THOUGHT

President Ruto should avoid the car sunroof and roadside meetings for the next one year.

Alai’s comments come shortly after Kenyans on social media began mocking President Ruto’s extensive development tours, which have included the launch of projects such as water stations and a dormitory.

Mocking Ruto’s Projects
On social media, particularly on X, users have been playfully wrapping ribbons around various everyday items and pretending to launch them. This jest appears to be a critique of Ruto’s recent rural project launches, which some Kenyans believe should be officiated by Cabinet Secretaries or MCAs instead.

President Ruto began his nationwide development tours following a decrease in political tensions after the end of anti-government protests. Accompanied by senior government officials, Ruto has been traveling across the country to inaugurate projects, some of which, critics argue, were previously launched by him years ago.

Since the ceasefire, Ruto has visited Meru, Embu, Kirinyaga, Kisii, Nyamira, Kakamega, and Nandi counties. On Saturday, August 17, 2024, he was in Kakamega and Nandi counties, where he launched several new projects.
