Armed police officers on Wednesday afternoon raided the home of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i in Karen, Nairobi.

The multi-agency security team drawn from various security units arrived at Matiang’i’s home in at least six vehicles where they conducted a search operation.

Lawyer Danstan Omari said the police officers broke into the home and conducted a raid without a court order.

According to Omari, the former CS was not at the home at the time of the raid.

The lawyer claimed that the officers carted away various materials after ransacking the home.

The raid at Matiang’i’s home came hours after the court earlier in the day declined to grant the Directorate of Criminal Investigations orders to access CCTV footage of the former Cabinet Secretary’s Karen residence.

Through an application dated February 10, the DCI had asked the court to direct the manager of Amsec Security Services, which guards Dr Matiangi’s home, to hand over security footage for the period between 6 am, February 8 and 11 pm, February 9.

This is in light of the police raid purported to have taken place on the former Interior CS’s home on the night of February 9 which the DCI dismissed as a “well-coordinated and deliberate attempt to spread false information and incite public fear.”.

In the application before the magistrate court in Nairobi, the DCI said they are investigating a case of alleged attempted Robbery contrary to section 297 of the Penal Code.

However, the orders sought were not granted, with the magistrate ordering that the matter is mentioned on March 7th.
