Azimio alleges assassination plot after Raila, Kalonzo security withdrawn

The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party now claims that the government has withdrawn the security of its leaders Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka, in what could turn out to be an elaborate assassination plot.

Azimio co-principal and Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua, speaking during a press address on Tuesday evening, stated that all elected Members of Parliament allied to the opposition political outfit also had their security withdrawn in similar fashion.

Ms Karua stated that Mr. Odinga and Mr. Musyoka are entitled to security from the State by virtue of having served as Prime Minister and Vice President, respectively, in previous governments.

Hence, by withdrawing their guards presumably owing to their political stand, she added, the President William Ruto administration is then acting in contravention of the Constitution.

“Instead of the free and democratic nation that the 2010 Constitution sought to bequeath Kenyans, Ruto is trying to re-invent a police state of the 1980s and the Kenya Special Branch plain clothes officers and terror machine,” she stated.

“Last night, Azimio leaders including (former) Prime Minister and our leader Raila Odinga, and former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka had their security withdrawn. This is significant because those two offices are guaranteed security by an Act of Parliament; it is not gratuitous. This is illegal and all Members of Parliament from Azimio who actively support this cause also had their security withdrawn.”

Ms. Karua further claimed that the act to revoke Mr. Odinga and Mr. Musyoka’s right to protection as enshrined the laws of the land is merely an attempt by the government to arm-twist them into halting their mass action calls.

She went ahead to allege that, in so doing, the Kenya Kwanza administration is then also exposing the two opposition stalwarts to possible assassination attempts.

“This is suspending the Constitution illegally, engaging in intimidation and blackmail. They’re also setting the stage for assassinations promised by Moses Kuria on his social media and public pronouncement,” said Ms. Karua.

“There is a slow but steady attempt to introduce martial law in Kenya. We know who Mr. Ruto is learning from, we will not allow it; we will resist, as a country and a people.”
