The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition has called on Kenyans to join the ‘sufuria movement’ bandwagon starting tomorrow as the tri-weekly anti-government demonstrations begin.

Speaking at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation on Tuesday, Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua stated that the movement will signify the food deficiency experienced in the nation, which has been occasioned by the high cost of living.

The nationwide movement, according to Karua, will commence at around mid-day and continue till late as protesters in Nairobi have been given three main convergence points; Joseph Kang’ethe grounds, Kamukunji grounds, and Jacaranda grounds.

Likewise, motorists have been urged to join the movement at the same time of day, hooting and flashing.

“We encourage Kenyans to continue picketing, demonstrating and protesting in their own ways in their own local areas as much as they can,” she said.

Karua added: “At mid-day tomorrow we ask Kenyans to come out of their homes and bang sufurias, pots and pans to signify lack of food. The sufuria movement kicks off tomorrow and continues until the battle is won.”

“At that hour we also call on motorists to stop wherever they are on the highways and roads and hoot and flashlights in support of this movement.”

At the same time, Karua pleaded with Kenyans to resort to citizen journalism and film state officers, including police and politicians who abuse and brutalize Kenyans while on duty, which she says will help in subsequent investigations.

“We appeal to Kenyans to take very seriously the unfolding chain of events, a new dictatorship is slowly taking route through nepotism, corruption, getting rid of opponents and suspension of the constitution,” she said.

“We call on Kenyans to put on their old armour of courage and work to take their country back.”

Meanwhile, they have called for the submission of any images recorded footage capturing any form of police brutality witnessed in last week’s protests in a bid to bring them to book.

“We have instructed our lawyers to prepare and institute legal proceedings against police officers who have gone against their constitutional duty of protecting lives and properties of Kenyans during protests,” she said.

“We are appealing to all Kenyans of goodwill who have photographic or video evidence of police brutalizing citizens to share the same with us to aid the case our legal team is working on.”

Even as the coalition asserts its stand on holding the protests despite warnings from the government, Karua noted that a simultaneous signature collection exercise is underway and has surpassed the 6 million mark.

“We are pleased to announce this morning we have hit over 6 million signatures. Those are 6 million Kenyans fed up with the Ruto regime,” she said.

“We encourage Kenyans to continue appending their signatures against Ruto and Gachagua and the entire regime.”
