Azimio Tuesday protests were marred by chaos despite an assurance by opposition leader Raila Odinga that there will be no destruction of property.

A bus was set ablaze on Ngong Road while protestors temporarily blocked a section of Mombasa Road near Imara Daima turn-off outbound.

The protestors battled police as they lit bonfires and blocked roads in Kibra.

Police had a difficult time dispersing the rowdy youths.

The scenes were replicated in Migori and Kisumu counties where residents took to the streets to demonstrate the high cost of living.

The government has banned the protests saying they have been symptomatic of unacceptable trend of criminal incidents including wanton destruction of property, arson, robbery, looting, injuries to officers and even death of a police officer.

Opposition Leader Raila Odinga Monday promised to ensure an orderly protest stating that the coalition would only present a memoranda to the Office of the President, the National Treasury, the Independent Boundaries and Electoral Commission (IEBC), and the Public Service Commission (PSC).

“I want to assure you that there will be no destruction of anyone’s property as our demonstration will be peaceful”, he said during a presser on Monday afternoon.
