Kameme FM’s beloved vernacular radio presenter Baby Top has left her followers speechless after chopping off the dreadlocks she had worn for nearly two decades.
Born Gladys Muthoni Njoroge in 1989 in Nyandarua County, Baby Top is one of Kenya’s most recognisable vernacular broadcasters.
She launched her radio career at Bahasha FM in 2011 before moving to Kameme FM the following year, where she hosts the popular Canjamuka show. She is a mother of one son, Adrian, and is currently in a relationship with Mugithi singer Waithaka wa Jane.
On Monday, November 2, she shared photos on Facebook posing confidently in a long, straight wig while holding the bundle of removed locs in her hands. The images showed her dressed in a sharp black official suit, standing beside her potted plants with a wide smile.
The message behind the cut
Baby Top did not hold back on the symbolism when explaining her decision.
”My dreadlocks have reached a legal age! So I sent them to campus. After 18 years, tumeagana!!!! But Hello to a New Month, New chapter, New me, SAME GOD! 🙌😮, SAME GOD! 🙏,” she wrote in the caption.
For a presenter whose locs had become part of her public identity since the early days of her career, the transformation marks one of the most significant style shifts she has ever made. She attributed the new look to Jpson Collections for the wig installation and Fridah Kamuhu for her makeup.

The post collected over 18,300 likes and 1,900 comments within just one hour of being shared, a sign of just how much her audience was caught off guard.
Fellow media personality Damaris Wa Dama Spares Original was among those who could barely believe what they were seeing, joking:

Other fans flooded the comment section with glowing words, describing the new look as elegant, youthful and classy, with several admitting they did not even recognise her at first glance.
For Baby Top, shedding the locs is clearly about much more than aesthetics. It is a personal milestone that mirrors the start of a new chapter, both in style and in life.
