Residents of Banissa Constituency have staged a peaceful demonstration demanding representation in Parliament following the death of their MP, Kullow Maalim Hassan, in March 2023.

The constituency has been without an MP for fifteen months, and residents insist that their voices must be heard.

The demonstration aimed to highlight their legal right to representation in the National Assembly, urging the national government to address their concerns.

Banissa MCA Issack Dhahir expressed that the hopes of Banissa residents to benefit from national developments are dwindling. He called on the government to establish the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and organize a by-election.

Residents emphasized their desire to exercise their constitutional rights and access national developments, like other Kenyans.

They believe that their participation in the democratic process and representation in Parliament are crucial for the constituency’s progress and inclusion in national growth initiatives.
