20 schools in Baringo North which were closed indefinitely owing to banditry attacks are yet to reopen as parents and pupils who fled the area are yet to return back to their homes two months after running to safety.
At Ngarutuko Primary, the school offices and some part of the administration block was razed down by bandits; the solar panels, books and other stationeries was not spared either.
According to the school head teacher Charles Tarus, no single pupil had reported to school as parents are yet to return back to their homes after they fled following banditry attacks. The school is literally bush with no sign of reopening soon.
At Kosile primary, no pupil reported. The centre remains deserted with structures dilapated. Security officers were patrolling the school on Monday and some few teachers had reported. This was the situation in other schools that have faced the wrath of banditry.
Baringo North OCPD Fredrick Odinga said they have established 6 new formed units near affected schools and villages.
He further said the security is using lorries to ferry people as they try to appeal to them to return back to their homes. In a status visit on Monday, some of the red zones were passable, an indication that normalcy is slowly returning in the areas.
Elsewhere, more than five schools in Baringo did not reopen for second term following heavy floods which rendered the schools inaccessible for pupils and parents even as displaced persons continue to camp in schools across Baringo South.
Sintaan Primary School , Leswa Primary School,Loropil Primary School,Loitip Primary School and Longeiwan Primary School are among schools which failed to reopen.
In Sintaan Primary School, the devastating effects of floods could be seen as a huge section of the school is still submerged following rains which wreaked havoc in the region for the last one week.
The gate of the school and part of the field is still flooded making the school inaccessible for learners. Also huge cracks can be seen on the walls of some of the classrooms.
Longeiwan and Leswa Primary Schools are completely cut off as floods have rendered the schools inaccessible while Loitip Primary School is hosting displaced victims from Longeiwan village and other affected areas.
Joseph Lekikenyi, a school Vice Chairperson said they will open once they are sure of the safety of their children.
Moffat Lekimet, another parent decried that Ng’ambo Primary and Ng’ambo Secondary were completely submerged when Lake Baringo burst its banks.
