A tragedy unfolded in Bomet County when a 30-year-old woman reportedly killed her two children before taking her own life. The bodies of the two children, aged 12 and three, were discovered in their home on Saturday in Chebisian village, Merigi Location, according to police reports.

The woman is believed to have used a panga to commit the act. Her body was later found hanging from a truss inside the house, which was locked from the inside. Police had to force their way into the residence, where they found the children’s bodies in a pool of blood. The remains have since been taken to Longisa County Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Police indicated that the woman had been experiencing mental trauma, which they believe may have contributed to the tragic incident.

A team is currently investigating the matter and will provide a report following their inquiries. Authorities are also exploring the possibility that the murder-suicide scenario was staged.

“We need to investigate to determine what really happened. It’s possible they were killed, and the entire situation was staged,” said an officer involved in the investigation.

The rising issue of suicide has prompted calls for action to address this trend, as the government has initiated programs aimed at tackling the problem amid ongoing financial challenges. Police report that the incidence of suicide has been alarming, with up to two cases being reported daily.

The World Health Organization attributes such incidents to various factors, including unemployment, grief, academic pressures, legal troubles, and financial difficulties. Additional contributing factors may include bullying, previous suicide attempts, a family history of suicide, substance misuse, and mental health issues such as depression and bipolar disorder.
