Mugiithi artiste Mary Wangare Gioche aka Kareh B on Friday evening laid a wreath on the spot where her 17-year-old son, Joseph Mwadulo, died in a road crash.

Mwadulo, who was a student at Chavakali Boys High School, died on April 1, 2024 in an accident involving a bus belonging to Easy Coach.

The bus, which was ferrying the students home after schools closed for the April holdays, overturned at Mamboleo Junction in Kisumu County.

At the scene, the grieving mother, accompanied by friends, prayed, sang dirges and lit 17 candles, to symbolise her son’s age at the time of his death.

At the same time, Kareh B said the school’s management acted irresponsibly by releasing the students to travel home at 11pm on the fateful night.

She also said the school was yet to reach out to her following her son’s death.

“I need answers.. I am breaking apart… I have been a parent at Chavakali Boys for the past four years and no one has bothered to call me to engage about my son’s death,” she said.

Without providing proof, she claimed there had been an attempted cover up.

“You even had to bribe someone with 30k… Is my son worth 30k? Chavakali Boys; when are you planning to communicate?” she posed.

She also sought an explanation from the Ministries of Education and Transport on why some schools are permitted to let students travel at night and the measures being put in place to curb road accidents.

“What is your take on this issue… are you going to continue being silent as the country loses more children on the roads?”

In an earlier interview with Nation.Africa, Kareh B recalled with nostalgia how the birth of her now deceased son brought her joy.

“The bundle of joy brought into me fulfillment of a desire… made me feel wholesome as a woman… I was elated,” she said.

According to the grieving mother, her son, who was a basketball enthusiast, aspired to be a pilot.

This the second loss Kareh B has suffered in three years, having lost her elder sister, Winfred Mukami, a former NTV newscaster, in 2021.
