One person has died and another injured following an accident in Syokimau, Machakos County.
The incident, which happened on Katani Road, saw two motorbikes collide head-on.
“One of the motorbikes was ferrying meat while the other one belonged to a bodaboda operator,” a witness said.
The motorbikes collided after the bodaboda operator slowed down in order to pave way for an oncoming vehicle only to be rammed into.
“The high-impact collision left the two with serious injuries. They were rushed to Syokimau Health Centre for treatment,” Evans Barasa, a bodaboda operator, said.
However, one of them was pronounced dead on arrival. “He succumbed to injuries sustained during the accident,” police said.
The motorbikes involved in the crash were towed by police officers. Meanwhile, police urged residents to be cautious on the road to avert such incidents.
“Motorists should take caution when plying this route. The road can only accommodate us all if we maintain lane discipline and exercise patience,” police noted.
The body of the deceased was taken to a nearby mortuary.
