Body by Design Clinic proprietors and a surgeon, who are facing manslaughter charges over the death of a plastic surgery patient last year, have been released on a Ksh.500,000 cash bail.

The suspects are: Robert Maweu Mutula, a surgeon; George Wakaria Njoroge and Lilian Edna Wanjiru, the proprietors of the clinic.

The three have also been ordered to provide a surety of similar amount, with the case set for mention on April 28, 2025.

The trio is facing charges related to the death of Lucy Wambui Ng’ang’a on October 6, 2024, at Omnicare Medical Limited, trading as Body by Design, located on Kabarsiran Avenue in Nairobi.

Lucy died while seeking beauty services at the clinic, which was marketed as a health clinic. However, government documents revealed it to be a beauty spa later.

The clinic was shut down by the Ministry of Health and the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) following the incident.

The closure was due to several violations, including unlawfully operating a health institution without the necessary license, failing to meet required medical standards, and not adhering to patient safety regulations.
