The body of a man aged 48 years who drowned during a fishing expedition in river Migori on Saturday evening has been retrieved.
The body of Azekiel Nduviri was retrieved Sunday afternoon by locals in collaboration with officers from Migori police station.
It has been moved to Migori level four hospital mortuary pending autopsy and police investigations.
Suna-Ngege location Chief Mr.Alphonse Aseno said the deceased was on a fishing expedition in the river when he drowned.
Aseno said their preliminary investigation established that the deceased was trying to recover his fishing hook that dropped in the river when he drowned.
He said the deceased was together with his two children who raised the alarm to some of the locals who were around the river. Aseno said the locals tried to hold him to life unfortunately their effort bore no fruit and he drowned.
Meanwhile the area chief has appealed to the people living around river Migori to be cautious when they are undertaking any activity in the river to avoid such deaths.
He said some of the parts of the river are very deep and therefore locals must be cautious all the time.
